The Audrey Herman Celebration this year is Saturday, January 18, 2020 (6pm - 10pm) at Matthew’s 1600 (1600 Frederick Road, Catonsville, MD 21228). The event celebrates the Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre’s 58th Season, and our legacy of challenging, and engaging performances, started by our founder, Audrey Herman. During the celebration we honor local individuals who have supported the arts & theatre in the Baltimore community. We are asking for your help to sponsor this important event.
This year we are recognizing Maria Broom, a local theatre artists and educator, with the Audrey Herman Award for her passion and support of the arts & theatre. Although nationally known as an actress for her recurring roles in HBO’s The Wire and The Corner, Maria is also a storyteller and dancer with more than forty years of performing and teaching in the US and across the globe. She is a Fulbright scholar and former news reporter for the ABC affiliates in Miami and Baltimore. Currently, she is on the theater faculty at the Baltimore School for the Arts. A native of Baltimore, Maria has received many awards and honors including the Eubie Blake Award, the Sarah’s Circle Award and the 2004 Governor’s Arts Award for Individual Artist. In 2007, she was named, Artist of the Year by Young Audiences of Maryland, Inc.
The theatre will also be presenting two Spotlighters Awards for volunteer efforts to support the theatre. We will recognize Andrea Bush for her work at Spotlighters and other local theatres as an actress, designer, director and supporter of Live Theatre! We will also honor Michael I. Blum for his work at Spotlighters, as an actor and director, and his support of our mission. Mr. Blum has gone above an beyond to promote and provide for Spotlighters in numerous ways.
Since this will be 2020 (the ‘20s once again) — we are inviting folks to celebrate at Spotlighters’ Speakeasy! We hope our guests will embrace the ‘20s theme and come as their best Gatsby, Gangster, or Flapper!
The Celebration will include a cocktail hour, with a variety of cheeses and crudites; followed by hot hors d’oeuvres, and of course, desserts. The evening includes music from a local DJ offering ‘20's music - plus, ballroom and contemporary music to satisfy the tastes of our diverse patrons. We will have a Red Carpet Photo station to help our friends commemorate the evening, plus entertainers from our season presenting music from our 58th Season. And since the evening is about fund raising for our education programs and our future relocation plans, we will include pledge cards and raffles.
