OUR FIRST BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
The Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre is excited to announce that Brandon Shaw McKnight is its new Associate Artistic Director, a newly created position.
He has already begun working with Fuzz Roark, our Managing Artistic Director. Brandon’s responsibilities include:
Brandon graduated from Morgan State University with a Bachelors in the Applied Liberal Arts and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Morgan.
He has worked in arts education, arts management, stage direction, stage management, and is a triple threat - actor/singer/dancer. Brandon was chosen from a field of more than 25 applicants, 9 of whom were interviewed.
Fuzz Roark and the hiring committee chose Brandon for his capacity to introduce younger generations to live theatre and his passion for inclusion in theatre. Brandon brings with him a network of local and regional artists that speak to Spotlighters mission and vision, as well as a desire to engage our young students in theatre both in city classrooms and in programs at the theatre. In Fuzz’s words, “Brandon’s energy and excitement about theatre are infectious!”
With an Associate Artistic Director in place, Fuzz will have more time to focus on Spotlighters’ business management and development. Brandon will bring another perspective for the theatre’s artistic vision, enhancing Spotlighters’ ability to grow, challenge, and engage the Baltimore community through live theatre.
Brandon hopes to bring a more diverse, younger, and new audience to Spotlighters. “I want to create moments that are priceless and touch the souls of everyone who enters into our theater,” says the new Associate Artistic Director. Brandon’s introduction to Spotlighters was as the stage manager for Into the Woods. He wants to continue growing as a leader and an artist, paying forward his positive experience at Spotlighters.
Hello Friends, Patrons & Donors!
A lot is happening at Spotlighters .... A LOT!
Fuzz is back in town for a short trip to assess the situation at the theatre and create a plan to prepare us to reopen in mid-September ... depending on what happens with the COVID-variants!
Thanks to our amazing donors - The 100!, and to Maryland State Arts Council, State of Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (NORI & SERI Funds), Small Business Administration (PPP), PNC Bank, William Baker Jr. Memorial Fund and the US CARES Act ... we have survived!
Our Board has been hard at work these past 16 months working to stretch the dollars we received from your donations and the special project funds from the state and federal government. We have worked with specialists to determine how to make the most of this time and to improve the theatre for your SAFE return in September.
We will be making more announcements as projects are finalized and as work begins! So, keep reading your E-News!
We can say that we will be hosting several clean up days over the next couple of months to get the theatre back in shape after being empty for over 16 months. It is amazing how much dust and detritus a 100+ year old building can accumulate in that time! Plus we need to do some reorganizing to put things where they really belong! We will announce these on the website, Facebook and E-News ... if you can donate a few hours - please help us out!
AND ... as we begin to prepare to re-open, we will need volunteers to assist with running the theatre for performances. We will need Box Office staff to run our ticketing system, Concessions and Ushers volunteers to assist with serving our patrons, and as always, we will need tech crew to assist with making the magic happen at each performance. Please email AHSpotlighters@Gmail.com if you're interested in volunteering and let us know your area of interest!
Thanks again for the amazing support you have all shown us over the past year-plus. There were times that it seemed really dark, and we weren't sure exactly how it would all play out. Having to furlough all staff including Fuzz for six months was a very sad time, but we made it through, and with your continued support and financial help, we will be back - LIVE on Stage - in a few months!
Please consider joining The 100! This group donates monthly to keep the routine expenses paid. You decide that works for you as a monthly donation, from $5 to $500 .... to set up your monthly donation account, go to https://www.spotlighters.org/partners
You may also make a one time donation at https://www.spotlighters.org - every gift helps us continue to improve our plan for the space and ensure your safety when we once again turn the lights on!
Thank you for everything you have done to keep Spots alive, it is deeply appreciated.
