Accessible?

HOW ACCESSIBLE IS THE Spotlighters Theatre?

Spotlighters Theatre is committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all audience members. Our long-term goal is to make the theater fully accessible to every patron, and we are actively working toward that vision. We are thrilled to share that we have received a grant to support major accessibility improvements, and work on this project will begin soon.As we continue this journey, we recognize that our space is still a work in progress. At this time, there is no wheelchair access to the theatre. However, we will make every reasonable effort to accommodate patrons with disabilities or special mobility needs. To ensure the best possible experience, please contact the Box Office at least two weeks in advance with any accessibility requests so that appropriate preparations can be made. Advance and reserve seating options are available for individuals and their guests who require additional support. We deeply value accessibility, and we appreciate your patience and partnership as we expand and improve our facilities. Stay tuned for updates as we move closer to our goal of a fully accessible theatre for all.

Patrons with Mobility Issues
Patrons using walkers, or needing assistance in mobility should notify the Box Office upon arrival, to secure assistance and early seating if needed. Patrons will be allowed to enter in advance of the official Open House announcement to have added time to safely secure their seating.

Main entrance:
Enter down the steps to the courtyard, at the Box Office door.
The courtyard, and the entrance to the Box Office.

Spotlighters is located on the Terrace Level of The Madison Apartments - a 100+ year old building in the
Mt Vernon neighborhood.
Unfortunately the theatre is NOT wheelchair accessible due to the only access being either down 7 steps or up 7 steps to the apartment lobby.

ADA
The theatre is located in the basement level of a building constructed in 190??, with no accessibility in the manner required for modern construction (post 1970).
To amend the situation would require a large investment and running the gauntlet of government and local approvals. Spotlighters would happily accept donations to address this!
Needless to say, we have applied for grants.

Mobility Aids (walkers, canes, service animals)

If you can transit the 7 steps and sit in our theatre seating, you are welcome to attend a performance. Due to the smallness of our stage and seating area, walkers and canes must be left in the designated theatre lobby area. Ushers are trained to transfer these items for you as needed.

If you have other questions on accessing the Audrey Herman Spotlighters Theatre, please see our contact page to connect via email or phone. We have no bots, just ghosts.
