Summer - Young Actors Academy Middle/High School Program: June 20 - July 21 Lower School Program: June 27 - July 14
The Middle & High School Young Actors Academy focuses on combining Academic & Conservatory methods to provide an intellectual as well as practical approach to acting. Young Actors spend over 130 hours in both class room setting and stage study to understand the methods, techniques and history of acting and theatre as well as other topics such as: Stage Combat, Dance & Movement, Comedy & Improv, Acting for Film & TV, Make-Up Design, Audition Technique, Character Development, Emotional/Relationship Acting. Classes are taught by local theatre professionals including local university staff, and national and international theatre professionals.
A five week program: Monday through Thursday 9am to 4pm - includes lunch each day Tuition: $575 Performances: Sat, July 23 - 1pm and Sun, July 24 - 7pm
The Lower School Young Actors Program is a more basic, experience oriented approach to acting and theatre. Focusing of the FUN-damentals of acting. Children will learn to create drama and story, and develop characters to interpret and explore story telling and acting.
A three week program: Monday through Thursday 9am to 1pm - includes lunch each day Tuition: $375 Performances: Sat, July 16 - 1pm and Sun, July 17 - 7pm
AFTER CARE for Lower School After many requests from parents of lower school students, we have been able to secure an After-Care program. It is be a combination of theatre games and recreational crafts designed for youth with theatre interests. Cost: $200 for the three week program and includes all materials and a mid afternoon snack. Registration Form will be updated to include the AfterCare Option.

Friday Master Classes Each Friday duing the Summer Young Actors Academy, we will offer a MASTER CLASS with a local Theatre Professional. These classes will be scheduled from 9am to 4pm, offering specialized and individual instruction in areas such as: - Voice & Musical Theatre - Stage Combat - Dance & Movement - Advanced Make-Up Design These classes will have the benefit of being smaller than our weekly program, to allow for more individual attention and instruction. The cost for these classes will be $35 for YAA students for the 6 hour period. Lunch will be provided. Non YAA students may register if space is available, for a $50 registration fee.
===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ===== ====== Summer Academy Primary Staff Billy Finn: (High School Theatre History & Styles) has appeared at local venues including Shakespeare Theatre Company, Folger Theatre, Round House Theatre, The Kennedy Center and others. He served as teaching artist, camp director and acting coach for many companies and training programs, including the Play Group Theater, Shakespeare Theatre Company and the Young Shakespeare Camp at the Virginia Shakespeare Festival. Lynne Streeter Childress (Middle School Director) has spent 17 years as a performer and an educator. She performed at Arena Stage, Adventure Theatre, and at the Kennedy Center in the World Premiere and first national tour of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day. Lynne worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library as Elementary Program Coordinator and a teaching artist, at Drama Learning Center, and served 6 years as the Creative Arts Team Leader for Children's Ministries at Bridgeway Community Church. Kym Craig (Lower School Director) has enjoyed working with children of all ages through education and the arts. Her passion for both has allowed her to teach for over 10 years in the public school system. Kym has also performed professionally for several regional theatres. As a tour actor for Missoula Children’s Theater, Kym directed children in grades K-12in full-length productions, and taught classroom teachers strategies for integrating academic concepts and the arts. Kym continues to direct children’s theatre.
