The Young Actors Academy at Spotlighters Theatre is seeking qualified candidates for a number of teaching artist positions. Please

Lower School Director (Grades 3-5)
- Dates needed: July 2 through July 23, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation
The Lower School Director oversees a group of ten to fifteen 3rd through 5th grade students through a 3-week, 4 day per week program. This program focuses on devising work through play, and guiding students through the basics of solid performance. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate student who is studying both theatre and education.
Acting Methods & Techniques Instructor (Grades 6-12)
- Dates needed: July 9 through August 10, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation
This instructor will teach two core 90-minute classes (to both a middle and high school class) through a 5-week, 4 day per week program. This class will focus on the fundamentals of acting technique, and introduce different methods for performance while maintaining a sense of fun and play that is age appropriate. An instructor who has knowledge of both physical methods (such as Chekhov, Viewpoints, LeCoq) and internal methods (those based on Stanislavsky) is desirable. This instructor will also direct or co-direct one of the Shakespearean productions, either with the middle or high schoolers. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate
student who is studying both theatre and education.
Theatre History & Styles Instructor (Grades 6-12)
- Dates needed: July 9 through August 10, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation
This instructor will teach two core 90-minute classes (to both a middle and high school class) through a 5-week, 4 day per week program. This class will prepare students to work on their Shakespearean piece by introducing Shakespeare in a fun way (scanscion, historical context of Shakespeare etc). This instructor will also explore one or two other historical styles (Greek theatre, commedia, Kabuki, Bunraku, etc). These styles can cater to the skills and styles of the instructor. This class is also, crucially, an opportunity for students to explore devised work. This instructor will also direct or co-direct one of the Shakespearean productions, either with the middle or high schoolers. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate student who is studying both theatre and education.
Teaching Assistants
- Dates needed: July 2 through August 10, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation
We are also seeking 4 highly qualified college students for a rewarding and rigorous teaching assistant experience. Students with both theatrical and educational experiences should apply. Those who wear multiple hats and may be looking for production experience, as stage managers, designers, assistant directors and more, are encouraged to apply. Production opportunities will be made available for teaching assistants with ability in these realms in addition to their teaching experiences.

As we enter our 50th Season (2011-2012)Spotlighters is planning several events to celebrate and toraise funds for the ADA Renovations. To accomplish this, we need your help. We need you tovolunteer to take charge of an event or a program. Saturday, October 6, 2012 - 6:00pm Reception with Silent Auction - 7:300pm Recognitions and Award Presentation - Dessert Reception We need volunteers to make this a greatfundraiser for the theatre! 3-5 volunteers to help gather items for our Silent Auction 1-2 volunteers to coordinate the reception catering 3-5 volunteers to assist with the actual event: set-up, staffing during event, and post event clean-up. Contact Fuzz for more info - Fuzz@spotlighters.org The AudreyHerman/Spotlighters DVD Project ------------------------- We have transfered about 50 vhs tapes of performancesand events at Spotlighters to DVD. We plan to create a DVD with clips from various performances over the years, as well as photos from our archives. We would like to include YOUR story about Audreyand/or Spotlighters in the DVD. These will be edited into clips and included inthe Spotlighters DVD. We need someone to serve as the point person for the recordings and maintain the necessary paperwork. Thisperson would also assist in handling orders for the DVD. Contact Fuzz for more info - Fuzz@spotlighters.org ADA Renovations Fund Raisers ------------------------- Our Fund Raising goal for the ADA Renovations isapproximately $127,000. We will be approaching local foundations andbusinesses for major gifts, but we need to provide ways forour patrons to participate as well. We are seeking a Coordinator to help us organize smallevents during the season to help raise the funds that aren'tprovided by the large grant sources. This individual would also be a point of contact for folkswith connections to businesses or companies that would wantto donate smaller amounts for specific gifts. For our 2011-2012 season, we are seeking an individual towork with local restarurants and caterers to provide a litefare reception for our Opening Night performances. The post-show reception is a great time for audience membersto mingle with cast and crew, and celebrate the excitementof Opening Night. Spotlighters has a small budget for the receptions - whichis stretched! We are seeking someone that would have the time to work withlocal vendors on a discounted promotional reception. Contact Fuzz for more info - Fuzz@spotlighters.org Box Office / Front of House ---------------------- Assisting with Box Office operations. Front of House Front of House involves anything to do with the preparation for the audience and their comfort. We have vounteers from Senior Box Office (Baltimore County Senior Network) that handle taking tickets and selling concessions, which leaves the theatre staff to handle the box office and front of house. |
INTERNSHIPS at Spotlighters Theatre - -Spotlighters offers a variety of Internship Programs.
The Internship Program will address training and offer experience in three significant areas of theatre: 1. TECHNICAL THEATRE Single Production (6-12 weeks) Semester/Summer Program School Term Program 2. PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT Three Month Program Six Month Program Year Program 3. OPERATIONS/FRONT OF HOUSE Three Month Program Six Month Program Year Program Applications should include a cover letter outlining the requirements (if Academic Internship), areas of interest, time committment available, and a copy of most current resume. This should include a narrative of theatre experience if not outlined in academic resume. Interns report to the Executive Director or his designee. Interns typically work 8-12 hours per week, depending on school and/or project requirements. Duties and tasks will be assigned to the Intern to allow for varied opportunities in all areas. The Intern may work in any or all of the three areas at the same time depending upon time restrictions. The Intern may select particular topics of interest from each of the Learning Areas Menus. |
