Henry II (Phil Gallagher) and his mistress, Alais (Eileen Cuff) - who is also betrothed to Henry's son, Richard; share an intimate moment before Henry's wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine, arrives for the Christmas court.

Eleanor of Aquitaine (Sherrionne Brown, R), who raised Alais (Eileen Cuff, L) comforts her as they discuss their love for Henry.

Eleanor (Sherrionne Brown, R) makes a confession to Henry (Phil Gallagher): "Henry, I don't much like our children."

Eleanor (Sherrionne Brown, R) and her son, Richard (Michael Leicht, L) Eleanor: Remember, I taught you dancing and music, and how to love what's beautiful. The sun was warmer then. . .

Princes John (Zack Hornberger, ctr) and Geoffrey (Shane Logue, R) conspire with King Phillip of France (Alex Peri, L)
Geoffrey: We can distroy father! John: And Mother too? Phillip: If John wants a war, he's got one!

Richard (Michael Leicht, Far L) makes his point with John's head (Zack Hornberger, L) while Geoffrey (Shane Logue, R) and Phillip (Alex Peri, Far R) watch in amusement.
Richard: I'll have the Aquitaine, and Alais, and the crown - I won't trade off one for the other - - not to this walking pustule!"

Eleanor (Sherrionne Brown, ctr-rear) forces Henry's hand (Phil Gallagher, R-front) by demanding that the marriage of Richard (Michael Leicht, L-front) and Alais (Eileen Cuff, ctr-front) happen immediately! This comes as a shock to Alais, as well as to John (Zack Hornberger L-rear), Geoffrey (Shane Logue, far L, rear) and Alais' brother, King Phillip of France (Alex Peri. R-rear).

Richard (Michael Leicht, L) visits Phillip (Alex Peri, R) late Christmas Eve. Phillip: You never wrote. I spent two years on every street in hell. Richard: That's odd, I didn't see you there.

Henry (Phil Gallagher, L-front) has locked the princes in the wine cellar, and now Richard (Michael Leicht, R-front) challenges him in a battle to the death, while Geoffrey (Shane Logue, L-rear) and John (Zack Hornberger, R, rear) watch.

Henry (Phil Gallagher, L) prepares to dispense judgement for treason on his son, Richard (Michael Leicht. R) Henry: I, Henry, king of the English, Lord of Scotland, Wales, and Ireland - - - do sentence you to death, this Christmas day in Chinon.
