2013 Summer Young Actors Academy Staff Opportunities --
The Young Actors Academy at Spotlighters Theatre is seeking qualified candidates for a number of teaching artist positions. Please send along a letter of intent and resume to Ron Heneghan, Academy Director, at academy@spotlighters.org.

All eligible candidates must be familiar and ready for the rigors, and joys, of working with young people in a summer camp environment. A good sense of humor, flexibility, and a team spirit are necessities. We look forward to receiving your application.
 
Lower School I Instructor (Grades K-2)
- Dates needed: July 1 through July 19, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation/set-up.
The Lower School I Instructor oversees a group of ten to fifteen Kindergarten through 2nd grade students through a 3-week, 5 day per week program.  This program focuses on devising work through play, and guiding students through the basics of solid performance. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate student who is studying both theatre and education.


Lower School Director II (Grades 3-5)
 - Dates needed: July 1 through July 26, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation/set-up.
The Lower School II Instructor oversees a group of ten to fifteen 3rd through 5th grade students through a 4-week, 5 day per week program.  This program focuses on devising work through play, and guiding students through the basics of solid performance. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate student who is studying both theatre and education.


Acting Methods & Techniques Instructor (Grades 6-12)
 - Dates needed: July 1 through August 11, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation/set-up.
This instructor will teach two core 90-minute classes (to both a middle and high school class) through a 5-week, 5 day per week program. This class will focus on the fundamentals of acting technique, and introduce different methods for performance while maintaining a sense of fun and play that is age appropriate. An instructor who has knowledge of both physical methods (such as Chekhov, Viewpoints, LeCoq) and internal methods (those based on Stanislavsky) is desirable. This instructor will also direct or co-direct one of the Shakespearean productions, either with the middle or high schoolers. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate student who is studying both theatre and education.


 Theatre History & Styles Instructor (Grades 6-12)
 - Dates needed: July 1 through August 11, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation/set-up.
This instructor will teach two core 90-minute classes (to both a middle and high school class) through a 5-week, 5 day per week program. This class will prepare students to work on their Shakespearean piece by introducing Shakespeare in a fun way (scanscion, historical context of Shakespeare etc). This instructor will also explore one or two other historical styles (Greek theatre, commedia, Kabuki, Bunraku, etc). These styles can cater to the skills and styles of the instructor. This class is also, crucially, an opportunity for students to explore devised work. This instructor will also direct or co-direct one of the
Shakespearean productions, either with the middle or high schoolers. This position is assisted by one dedicated teaching assistant, a college/graduate student who is studying both theatre and education.


Teaching Assistants
 - Dates needed: July 1 through August 11, with a few scattered days in May/June for meetings/orientation/set-up.
We are also seeking 5 highly qualified college students for a rewarding and rigorous teaching assistant experience. Students
with both theatrical and educational experiences should apply. Those who wear multiple hats and may be looking for production experience, as stage managers, designers, assistant directors and more, are encouraged to apply.  Production
opportunities will be made available for teaching assistants with ability in these realms in addition to their teaching experiences.

Education Staff Bios - - -

Ron Heneghan (Academy Director. 2012 Acting Techniques, Director, Macbeth) is a professional actor and director, and has taught in higher education for the past two decades. An Associate Artist with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, Ron has appeared in their productions of Our Town and Richard III. His work has been seen at  three Tony Award-winning Regional Theatres (Seattle Rep, Huntington Theatre Company, and Utah Shakespearean Festival) and he is a former company member at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival and PCPA Theatrefest in California. A Maryland native, his undergraduate degree is from the University of Maryland, and his M.F.A. in Theatre from the University of Washington.
 
Janel Miley (2012 Theatre Styles, Director Two Gentlemen of Verona)


Marianne Angelella (Curriculum Coordinator, After-school Young Actors Academy, Vocal Technique) has been creating story theatre with children in Baltimore for over fifteen years.  Ms. Angelella has taught for The Young Actors Academy at Spotlighters Theatre, Everyman Theatre, Fells Point Corner Theatre, Performance Workshop Theatre, and Pumpkin Theatre. She has directed nearly 20 productions in Maryland schools as an Artist-in-Residence for the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival. Angelella is the lower school drama teacher at The Baltimore Lab School. In addition to her teaching, Marianne is an actress performing in theatres in the Baltimore/Washington area. She is a member of Actor’s Equity Association.

Lynne Streeter Childress (2011 Summer Middle School Director, Theatre History & Styles) has spent 17 years in the theatre as a performer and educator. She has recently performed at Arena Stage, Adventure Theatre, and at the Kennedy Center, in the World Premiere and first national tour of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day". Lynne has recently worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library as Elementary Program Coordinator and as a teaching artist, at the Drama Learning Center, and served for 6 years as the Creative Arts Team Leader for Children's Ministries at Bridgeway Community Church in Columbia, MD.

Kym Craig (2011 Summer Lower School Director) has enjoyed working with children of all ages through education and the arts.  Her passion for both has allowed her to teach for over a decade in the public school system. She has also performed professionally for several regional theatres. As a tour actor for Missoula Children’s Theater, Kym  directed children in grades K-12in full-length productions, and taught classroom teachers strategies for integrating academic concepts and the arts. Kym  continues to direct children’s theatre.
